Sega has announced that four classic Sonic games will be removed from digital storefronts on May 20th. This is in preparation for the release of the new Sonic Origins game bundle, which is scheduled for the end of June. The four classic Sonic games that are being phased out of stores will all be included in the upcoming compilation.
The four classic games being removed from sale are:
• Sonic the Hedgehog
• Sonic the Hedgehog 2
• Sonic 3 & Knuckles
• Sonic CD
For the time being, each game is available for $5 on Steam, but they will be removed from the store on May 20th. Sonic Origins will be available on June 23rd for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It's a remastered collection of classic Sonic Games that will cost $39.99 when it releases.
Sega is not the only company that's removed the originals from sale ahead of the release of a remake. Rockstar also delisted GTA 1, 2 and 3 ahead of the release of the remastered GTA Trilogy collection.
