Todd Howard recently spoke with IGN about Starfield but the conversation included games too. He spoke a little about what Bethesda will be working on once Starfield has been released. It's been expected that Bethesda will be working on The Elder Scrolls 6 after completing Starfield but the future of Fallout has been uncertain.
Howard has revealed that “Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production” still and confirms the company will be “doing Fallout 5 after that”. While Fallout 4 was released in 2015, it looks like fans could be waiting at least another 5 years to see the next game for the main series. Todd Howard also commented that Bethesda has “other projects” that the team is looking at but didn't elaborate on what this means.
Starfield has taken Bethesda around 7 years to develop and with Elder Scrolls 6 in pre-production now, it will be a long time before we get news about Fallout 5.
