Gearbox Entertainment was the publisher for Risk of Rain 2 and now, the company has purchased the IP. Originally developed by Hopoo Games, the Borderlands developer now owns the popular indie series. Posting to Twitter, Hopoo Games confirms the move on the official Risk of Rain 2 account. The statement doesn't say outright that Gearbox has purchased Risk of Rain or Hopoo Games. It explains that “Gearbox welcomes Risk of Rain” to the “family” and that the company has “developed a deep love and respect for the IP”. There's also another interesting piece of information hidden in the statement from Gearbox. It also mentions that they've been working on a “very special passion project” with Hopoo Games and they plan to share “more details soon”. This isn't related to the console release of Risk of Rain 2's Survivors of the Void DLC. Gearbox notes that this project is a “true love letter to the community”.
