Epic Games has announced that it's now turning off the “out-of-date online services and servers” for many of the older games that are now under the Epic umbrella. This seems to be part of a move to “solely support Epic Online Services”.
While most of the games will still be playable offline, some will no longer be playable at all. Epic confirms the following games will have their online services taken offline on January 24th 2022:
• 1000 Tiny Claws
• Dance Central 1- 3 (not including Dance Central VR)
• Green Day: Rock Band
• Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess
• Rock Band 1 – 3 (Rock Band 4 will remain online)
• The Beatles: Rock Band
• Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (The original Rocket League)
• Unreal Gold
• Unreal II: The Awakening
• Unreal Tournament 2003
• Unreal Tournament 2004
• Unreal Tournament 3
• Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition
The above titles will still be playable offline in single-player or local multiplayer. In addition to this, Epic Games has begun removing those games and any DLC from all digital storefronts where they were still available for purchase.
Hatoful Boyfriend and Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star has had its' Mac and Linux versions removed from all storefronts effective immediately. Battle Breakers is shutting down on December 30th and will no longer be accessible to players but the company will be automatically refunding players for all in-game purchases made 180 days prior to the announcement if it was bought through Epic.
It's sad news for the fans of these games, however, the eventual online service shutdowns have been expected for a long time. To make up for the sad news though, Epic Games has announced that Unreal Tournament 3 is being updated to a new free-to-play version called “Unreal Tournament 3 X” and is getting new servers.
