Embracer Group previously purchased Square Enix Montreal as part of a larger purchase deal from Square Enix earlier this year. While SE Montreal recently announced it was being rebranded as Onoma, it's now been revealed the studio is being closed down. According to Bloomberg, Embracer Group has decided to shut down Onoma just a few weeks after a rebrand. Sources have told Bloomberg that some of the staff are moving to sister studio Eidos Montreal. This seems to be part of Embracer trying to cut costs, scale back the scope of an unannounced title and cancel another project. Apparently, the cancelled game at Eidos Montreal was inspired by Stranger Things but the company is now working on a new IP with a scaled back scope. A new Deis Ex title in “very, very early” development and a Fable project in co-development with Microsoft's Playground Games.
